Weekend Washcloth and Towel Pattern

This pattern is easy works up really quick would make a great set for your own bathroom, or in gift baskets, or for a guest room even a baby shower as the cotton is oh so soft. I used Lion Brand 24/7 cotton weight medium 4. A cotton blend would work nicely too.

MATERIALS
Yarn - medium worsted weight cotton yarn (400 oz/200 yards)

DISHCLOTH

Row 1 - (RS) chain 32 in the third and fifth stitch dc dec (see pattern stitch) *yarn over hook insert into same stitch 3 stitches on hook, yarn over pull through 2 stitches on hook, two remain, skip one stitch, insert hook in next, yarn over pull through 4 stitches on hook, yarn over pull through 2 stitches, yarn over pull through last two, then chain 1* repeat across row to last stitch dc.

Row 2 - ch 1, *sc in the next ch 1 space, (the space between each side of the V point of the stitch from the last row) repeat across to last stitch sc in last stitch.

Row 3 - here you're going to chain 3 begin making double crochet yarn over hook insert into same stitch as chain 3. Continue as Row 1 across.

FOR THE TICKING AFTER ROUND 3 FASTEN OFF. With (WS) facing join contrasting color in mine I chose white. OTHERWISE continue with the pattern onto row 4.

Row 4 - (WS) repeat row 2 for solid or contrasting color, for contrasting color fasten off color after completion of this row. for solid color continue on...

Row 5 - with RS facing join main color in first stitch, repeat row 3.

Row 6 - Repeat row 4, fasten off if solid continue to through all the rest of the pattern.

Row 7- Repeat row 5.

Rows 8-13 repeat rows 2 and 3, turn fasten off.

Rows 14-16 repeat rows 4-6

Row 17- repeat row 5

Rows - 18 & 19 repeat rows 2 and 3, do not fasten off.

BORDER
Rnd 1 -  (RS) with main color...ch 1, (work 2 sc in each corner) sc evenly across top edge, across sides, all the way around. If you're doing the contrasting color this is where you would fasten off the main color...if using one color continue on to round 2.

Rnd 2 - Here you can do the border two ways. I just did a sc around on this row. Contrasting color and Solid color can be worked like this in the back loop of the first stitch of round 1, ch 2, hdc (half double crochet)  in back loop of each stitch of corner and in back loop of each stitch around. Fasten off work in ends.

TOWEL
Done in the same manner as washcloth - Only start with chain 68 begin as washcloth row 1 right up to row 7.

Rows 8 - 25 repeat rows 2 and 3 turn fasten off if using ticking color otherwise continue straight through with solid color.

Rows 26-28 repeat rows 4-6

Row 29- repeat row 5

Rows 30 & 31- repeat rows 2 & 3 do not fasten off.

Continue with Border as instructed for washcloth.
